My nephew, Chad, is a great guy...
He
has grown from a goofy, wacky skater-punk kid into a true individual.
He's now nineteen and still a bit goofy and wacky...but

They met when she and Jeff Goldblum were filming
a movie in Rhinebeck, NY.
The picture was taken
by Ira (Chad's boss) at Samuel's of Rhinebeck,
the
shop where Chad works in the summer.
Apparently
they got chummy while she was in town....
That's
my nephew....pal to the stars!
I
gotta tell a story here...
Chad did something once
that made me SO DAMN PROUD of him.
This
is a secondhand story, as related to me by my sister, Chad's mother....
Once, when Chad was in junior high,
some punk thug at his school was trying to bully him.
The
guy was holding Chad down and calling him a fag. Chad isn't gay
at all, although he knows
all about his favorite
uncle in SF (me!), and he understands exactly what being "gay"
is.
His response to the punk was "What if
I WAS gay? Would that THREATEN you?".
That
completely unnerved the bully and made him uncomfortable enough
to back off.
(Which is typical of most bullies...they're
unable to handle an intelligent debate)
That was
really a proud moment for me....to learn that my teenaged nephew
had such a
positive self image and could display
such courage in junior high school.
I
know that *I* never handled such situations with that kind of
confidence.
He is a good man and I feel honored
to call him both family and friend.
